University of California, Riverside Professor of Nematology, Isgouhi Kaloshian, has been named Divisional Dean of Agricultural and Natural Resources for the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, effective July 1, 2021. She succeeds Timothy Paine, Distinguished Professor of Entomology.
During Dr. Kaloshian’s three-year appointment as Agricultural and Natural Resources Divisional Dean, she will oversee four departments: Botany and Plant Sciences, Entomology, Environmental Sciences, and Nematology.
Dr. Kaloshian joined UCR in 1997 and was Chair of the Department of Nematology between 2017-2021. She received her B.S. in Agricultural Engineering and M.S. in Plant Protection from American University of Beirut. Dr. Kaloshian obtained her Ph.D. in Plant Pathology at UC Riverside and postdoctoral training at the University of California, Davis.
As a molecular geneticist, Dr. Kaloshian studies the interactions between plants and nematodes, and insect pests. She has received funding for her research from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the National Science Foundation. She has served as senior editor of journals in her field of research.
Dr. Kaloshian was awarded the Syngenta Award for Excellence in Research from the Society of Nematologists. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Kaloshian has received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement and the UCR Distinguished Service Award for her development of the COVID-19 campus testing lab.
