As of April 24, 2024, the Department of Justice has decided that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which covers the grounds of digital inclusivity, extends to public higher education institutions, requiring that web content adhere to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA standards. This includes content contained within Learning Management Systems.
The ruling defines a targeted compliance date of April 24, 2026 for institutions the size of UCR.
For guidance or support around UCR's accessibility policies, campus community members can seek assistance from the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator at the UCR Office of Civil Rights.
